If you were wondering where the idea for MassRefunds came about, it was on the PayPal Developer forums. On this thread, Payam asked if a tool for issuing bulk refunds existed. On new years’ day, I have a new years’ gift for everyone. Well almost
I have been using PayPal for many years now. I started using PayPal to send / receive money from my friends to settle bills or to return money that i had borrowed. Later on, PayPal was the medium of choice to receive payments for items sold on Ebay. I loved the ease with which payments could be sent and received. While it is free to receive funds in a personal account from a bank source, receiving funds from a credit card source is not free ( PayPal fees can be seen here).

He already had implemented his website and completed the PayPal integration. When he contacted us and explained what he needed to do, we realized we could use either the ‘custom’ field or the ‘invoiceId’ field to group the transactions.

Issuing partial refunds using MassRefunds is equally easy. You can paste ( type ) the transaction ID followed by a comma ( , ) and then the refund amount into the space on the ‘Partial Refunds’ page. You can do this for multiple transactions by following the same format for a transaction, one on each line. If you prefer to collect all such transactions to be refunded and issue refunds at one go, you can save them in a txt file which can be uploaded. The format of the file is the same explained above ( transaction ID , refund amount).
